Obituary for Mr. Warren W. Wessner
Warren W. "Slim" Wessner, 80, of Topton, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Irene F. (Geist) Wessner, whom he married on December 10, 1966.
Born in the village of Stony Run, Berks County, Warren was a son of the late Walter W. and Dorothy M. (Danenhower) Wessner and was a 1960 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Slim was a truck driver for his entire career. Over the years Slim drove truck for Peters Brothers Trucking, Inc., Lenhartsville, Herbert W. Heffner, Inc., Leesport, and Carpenter Technology Corporation, Reading, until his retirement. While working at CarTech, Slim received the distinguished Million Mile Trucking Achievement Award within 10 years of his employment, a very difficult accomplishment to achieve. Upon his truck driving retirement, he was often seen on a lawnmower helping with his son’s landscaping business.
When Slim wasn't on the road and after his retirement, he enjoyed the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who instilled his love of the sport to his son and grandchildren. Slim also enjoyed his deer spotting adventures with his grandchildren, time spent on the range at Topton Fish and Game and attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. Throughout the years, Slim was the proud owner of several Harley's which he spent many hours riding, no matter what the weather was outside. His kindhearted and welcoming personality will sorely be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Along with his wife of 56 years Irene, Warren is survived by his two children, Steven W. Wessner, companion of Michelle A. (Snyder) Reichard, Topton, and Susan D. (Wessner), wife of Norman D. Jacobs, Mertztown; was the "Pop" to Cody W. Wessner, Livia N. Jacobs, and Meghan N. (Smith) Quier; and was the great-pop to Greyson Z. and Addyson C. Quier; brother, Wayne W., husband of Linda (Peters) Wessner, Lenhartsville; and sister, Elaine M. (Wessner) Phillips, Elizabethtown. He is also survived by his extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jordan M. Valentine, Brittany D. (Jacobs) DeRafelo, Tyler J. Reichard, and Lucas D. Reichard, Gianna DeRafelo, and Madilyn and Raelynn Reichard; extended Geist family, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Along with his parents, Warren was predeceased by his brother, Donald M. Wessner and grandson, Zachary D. Smith.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Warren's life will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Jeffrey J. Butz officiating. Burial will follow in Frieden's Church Cemetery, Lenhartsville.
Viewings will be held on Thursday evening, December 29th from 6:00 to 7:30p.m. and again on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home.
