The Life of Mr. Warren W. Wessner

Warren W. "Slim" Wessner, 80, of Topton, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Irene F. (Geist) Wessner, whom he married on December 10, 1966.

Born in the village of Stony Run, Berks County, Warren was a son of the late Walter W. and Dorothy M. (Danenhower) Wessner and was a 1960 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Slim was a truck driver for his entire career. Over the years Slim drove truck for Peters Brothers Trucking, Inc., Lenhartsville, Herbert W. Heffner, Inc., Leesport, and Carpenter Technology Corporation, Reading, until his retirement. While working at CarTech, Slim received the distinguished Million Mile Trucking Achievement Award within 10 years of his employment, a very difficult accomplishment to achieve.  Upon his truck driving retirement, he was often seen on a lawnmower helping with his son’s landscaping business.

When Slim wasn't on the road and after his retirement, he enjoyed the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who instilled his love of the sport to his son and grandchildren. Slim also enjoyed his deer spotting adventures with his grandchildren, time spent on the range at Topton Fish and Game and attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. Throughout the years, Slim was the proud owner of several Harley's which he spent many hours riding, no matter what the weather was outside. His kindhearted and welcoming personality will sorely be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Along with his wife of 56 years Irene, Warren is survived by his two children, Steven W. Wessner, companion of Michelle A. (Snyder) Reichard, Topton, and Susan D. (Wessner), wife of Norman D. Jacobs, Mertztown; was the "Pop" to Cody W. Wessner, Livia N. Jacobs, and Meghan N. (Smith) Quier; and was the great-pop to Greyson Z. and Addyson C. Quier; brother, Wayne W., husband of Linda (Peters) Wessner, Lenhartsville; and sister, Elaine M. (Wessner) Phillips, Elizabethtown. He is also survived by his extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jordan M. Valentine, Brittany D. (Jacobs) DeRafelo, Tyler J. Reichard, and Lucas D. Reichard, Gianna DeRafelo, and Madilyn and Raelynn Reichard; extended Geist family, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Along with his parents, Warren was predeceased by his brother, Donald M. Wessner and grandson, Zachary D. Smith.

Letter to My Dad

Pop - As I sit here at the computer typing, the tears are rolling down my cheeks as I am heart broken that I will no longer see you sitting in the recliner as I walk in the back door or hearing your advice and stories of yester year or seeing that smile when we crack jokes. I am so thankful that I was able to be there with you, holding your hand as you took your last breath.  Know that you will forever be in my heart and my life is forever changed.  I could go on but I know that I will talk with you often and one day see you again.  Until then, I love you Pop!

Watching you with Livia has truly warmed my heart.  Her memories of you are steadfast and will not dim as time passes.  Her favorite memories are deer spotting, fishing, playing Uno, and snuggling in next to you on the recliner.  She can't explain why those activities are her favorite, only that she was with you.  The two of you are quite the pair and know that she idolized you and will miss you dearly. When you hear the sax, know she is playing for you.

P.S. Steve & I will take care of Mom.

All My Love - Sue

Note to You

Uncle Warren,

I was heartbroken to hear you passed. I do hope you're getting to hang out with Dad. You two were so similar. I loved how you always smelled like pipe tobacco ... just like him. I miss my dad every day. I'm sure you did too.

It is truly a shame when family loses touch over misinformation that really wasn't necessary. I do wish I would have realized many truths decades ago. But, on a much more positive note, I watched your tribute video. Your family is absolutely beautiful!

Danny just reminded me the other day how you used to take us for rides on your Harley, and I know we both always had fun at the annual Topton Halloween parade.

I'm sorry we couldn't make it to your funeral service. I will certainly stop by to visit you and Dad soon. I just wanted to say I'll miss you.

Love,

Dawn
