Obituary for William Raymond Mercer

William R. Mercer, 85, long time Delaware County resident died January 17th 2021. Raised in Colwyn, he attended Sharon Hill High School and received his BA in Psychology from Covenant College, his BD in Theology from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary and a Master's degree in psychology from West Chester University. He also studied at L’Abri Fellowship in Switzerland. Bill was a licensed therapist and Christian counselor; he maintained a private practice. A member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, a member of the New Life Ministries Credentialed Counselors Network, his concentrated area was in Counseling individuals and families with knowledge in a wide range of personal, family, and marital problems. He was an active member of  Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr and had a love of sacred and classical music. Bill enjoyed sacred concerts, the symphony orchestra, organ and piano recitals, and chamber music. He was active in his church’s Bible study and fellowship groups and made many wonderful, caring friends there. He counseled, trained, and equipped others towards happy, healthy, peace-filled lives lived in obedience to Christ and His Word.  He enjoyed studies in science, especially chemistry. He loved nature and all of God’s creation. Bill was close to his family,  and their spiritual welfare was of major importance to him. Survivors include his brothers, Atlee, Robert, and Ronald Mercer and his sister, Kathryn  Rivera. He was predeceased in death by his brother, Harry R Mercer and nephew, Mark R Mercer. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Proclamation Presbyterian Church, Bryn Mawr Ave in Bryn Mawr followed at 1pm by his interment at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
