Obituary for John G. Kissane

John G. Kissane,

John G. “Jack”, 91, of Hockessin, DE, formerly of East Lansdowne, died from complications of a stroke on June 30, 2019. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Saint Francis Prep School, St. Francis College, and Brooklyn Law School. Jack was an attorney and Regional Director for the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia before retiring in 1993. He was a former member of Saint Cyril of Alexandria Church in East Lansdowne and St. Catherine’s Parish in Wilmington, Delaware.

Jack’s father, James “Joe” Kissane died when Jack was 9 years old. His dear mother, Kathleen, heroically raised him and his siblings Elizabeth, James, Edward, William, Thomas and Richard, all of whom learned a great work ethic, personal responsibility, devotion to family, always with a great sense of humor.

Jack enjoyed traveling with his family, especially his brother Ed and his late sister Lizzie. He was a devoted student of literature, history, philosophy, and religion. Known to tell a good story himself, he enjoyed Irish lore and music. Raising a glass with friends and family was among his favorite pastimes. Jack’s fondest wish for those left behind would be to toast all the good times he shared with them.

Jack was the devoted husband of the late Helen Kaffana Kissane. He is the father of Teresa and Leon Brostoff, Jacqueline and Romano Candido and John Kissane.  He is survived by his brother Ed, and was a loving Papa to his grandchildren James, Hannah, and Isabella Candido, Claire and Molly Kissane, Noah, Miriam and the late Emily Brostoff, and his great grandchildren Collin and Grayson Candido.

The Funeral Service will be 11 am, Friday, at the Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill, PA, where friends may call after 9:30a.m. Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery. Online condolences: www.Toppitzer.us
