The Life of John G. Kissane

John G. Kissane,

John G. “Jack”, 91, of Hockessin, DE, formerly of East Lansdowne, died from complications of a stroke on June 30, 2019. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Saint Francis Prep School, St. Francis College, and Brooklyn Law School. Jack was an attorney and Regional Director for the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia before retiring in 1993. He was a former member of Saint Cyril of Alexandria Church in East Lansdowne and St. Catherine’s Parish in Wilmington, Delaware.

Jack’s father, James “Joe” Kissane died when Jack was 9 years old. His dear mother, Kathleen, heroically raised him and his siblings Elizabeth, James, Edward, William, Thomas and Richard, all of whom learned a great work ethic, personal responsibility, devotion to family, always with a great sense of humor.

Jack enjoyed traveling with his family, especially his brother Ed and his late sister Lizzie. He was a devoted student of literature, history, philosophy, and religion. Known to tell a good story himself, he enjoyed Irish lore and music. Raising a glass with friends and family was among his favorite pastimes. Jack’s fondest wish for those left behind would be to toast all the good times he shared with them.

Jack was the devoted husband of the late Helen Kaffana Kissane. He is the father of Teresa and Leon Brostoff, Jacqueline and Romano Candido and John Kissane.  He is survived by his brother Ed, and was a loving Papa to his grandchildren James, Hannah, and Isabella Candido, Claire and Molly Kissane, Noah, Miriam and the late Emily Brostoff, and his great grandchildren Collin and Grayson Candido.

Always smiling

It was never just ‘Uncle Jack’ it was always “Uncle Jack- Uncle Jack!”  Aunt Helen and Uncle Jack we’re apart of many of my childhood memories. He couldn’t tell Donna and I apart until we were older  but always welcomed us with a big smile and a hug. He was so quick to laugh and make others laugh with his stories. He had such a kind and soft spirit about him.  He had such a great laugh that it was contagious.  Teresa, Jackie and John all inherited their parents’ kindheartedness, and the same meek and humble spirit.  Reminiscencing on family reunions at Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop’s have always included Aunt Helen and Uncle Jack and all the cousins.  Thank you Uncle Jack for always sharing a kind word and fartherly advice.  Thank you for being a part of some of my best childhood memories.  God truly used you to bless everyone you came in contact with.  Give Jesus and Aunt Helen a hug from me. Rest in His Peace till we meet again. All my love, sympathy and prayers for peace for all he left behind.

Love Deborah
