I first "met" Bill when I was about 2 years old. My family and I had the pleasure of living next door to him, his wife Betty, son Bill, daughter Linda (my best friend) and sons Fred and Bob. I'd see him almost every day, walking down the alley past our house going to or from work. He and Betty would get together with my mom and dad often to play cards, go on picnics, etc. Any time dad was remodeling and would have problems and get cranky, mom would call Betty and say, "Send Bill down" (Bill was a fantastic carpenter). That always calmed Dad down. Betty was always a second mom to me. I have a lot of great memories with his family.
