Obituary for VIVIAN LETICIA DENNIS
Vivian Dennis, 99, was born August 7, 1914 in Hiteman, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Lulu Kephart. She passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Vivian’s mother died when she was 14 years old, leaving her to raise her three siblings. She graduated from North High School in 1933. Vivian married Earl C. Dennis on September 4, 1937. She was previously a candy striper at Rockford Memorial Hospital, and volunteered for River Bluff Nursing Home and the Red Cross in Rockford, IL. Vivian loved reading and bird watching.
Vivian is survived by her sons, Roger (Gretchen) Dennis, Stephen (Sandra) Dennis and John (Helen) Dennis; grandchildren, David (Kathy) Dennis, Mark (Darcy) Dennis, Dan (Kate) Dennis, Deborah (Bruce) Sweet, and Elizabeth Brown; nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, grandson-in-law, Michael Brown; and her siblings, Charles, Margaret and Dalma.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. A committal service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
