Obituary for Paul L Scheetz
PAUL L. SCHEETZ
CANFIELD – There will be prayers at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home and a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for Paul L. Scheetz, 72 who passed away Sunday morning at Hospice House.
Paul was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Edna Ellebrecht Scheetz and has been a life-long area resident.
He attended St. Dominic Elementary School and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School, the first graduating class of 1959. Paul enlisted in the Army after graduating. He was 4th infantry division Arty. at Fort Lewis in Washington and then was deployed to Germany from 1960 to 1963. Paul worked from 1966 until retirement in 2000 at General Motors, Lordstown in the Passenger Plant.
He was a long time parishioner of St. Dominic Parish and belonged to UAW Local Union No. 1112. Paul was involved in many bowling leagues, Tuesday with Hivley Doubles League at Amron; Wednesday with SRI Investment Seniors League, also at Amron, where he served as President; and Thursday with Independent Taxi League at Boardman Lanes.
He golfed often at Meander Golf Course and participated in Men’s baseball leagues at Rocky Ridge and at G.M. Lordstown. Paul was an avid sports fan, he was very supportive of his grandsons sporting events at Mineral Ridge and often would travel to all football games. Paul enjoyed watching the Browns, Indians, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Cardinal Mooney football and especially enjoyed Youngstown State University football. He and his wife would never miss a game, often they traveled to the away games as well.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, the former Susan Elizabeth Melia, whom he married Sept. 23, 1967.
He will also be missed by his daughter, Paula Lynne Scheetz (Tom) Morrison of Mineral Ridge; his two grandsons, Michael Alan McRoberts of Austintown and Jonathan Dale McRoberts of Mineral Ridge; two sisters, Jean Rubenstahl of Boardman and Mary Lou Rogenski of Austintown; a brother-in-law, William R. Melia of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Steven L. and Katheryn J. Lutheran; two sisters, Dorothy Laverie and Sr. Margaret Scheetz (OSU); and his godson and nephew, Joseph Rubenstahl.
Paul had a special friend, his buddy, his cat, Smoky.
