Obituary for Wallace Hess

He was born May 4, 1931, in Hesston, Pa., a son of Jacob Wallace and Christina Arlene McKnight Hess.

He was a 1950 graduate of Huntingdon High School.

He was a diesel mechanic for Cooper Jarrett Trucking, retiring in 1992, and also worked for Buck’s Garage in Philadelphia. After his retirement, he was a Sergeant for O.S.S. for 14 years.

He was a member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church.

Wallace was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War in the 131st Transportation Company, and was a member of Amvets Post 44.

He will be sadly missed by his family, his wife, the former Helen Taylor, whom he married Sept. 26, 1953; his children, Gregory (Susan) Hess of Austintown, Diana (Rodger) Bartlett of Warren, and Christine (Eric) Ostling of Brookfield; his grandchildren, Heather Lang-Hess, Gregory C. Hess, April Williams, Sarah Bartlett, Crystal Rovnyak, and Justin Hess; and his great-grandchildren, Taylor Williams, Olivia Bartlett, Alyssa Williams, Ryan Lang, Adam Lang, and Austin Rovnyak.

He also leaves his siblings, Raymond Hess, Betty Thompson, Dorothy Amrhein, Bernice Shoemaker, Ruby Shultz, David Hess, and Terry Hess.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Hess.

There will be calling hours on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home and Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church Hill United Methodist Church.

Wallace will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield with full military honors.
