Obituary for Andrew B McLaughlin

SALEM – Andrew “Andy” McLaughlin, 86, of Lisbon Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness surrounded by his family.

Andy was born on Aug. 1, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Edna Marie (Horne) McLaughlin.

Andy joined the Navy in May of 1944 and proudly served on the U.S.S. Agawan and U.S.S. Boxer. He attained the rank of Fireman First Class before being honorably discharged in June of 1947. After the service, Andy married the former Myrna Dalrymple on June 23, 1957.

He worked at Brownlee Pontiac in Boardman as Service Manager for 30 years, and also at Delux Motors in Columbiana for 16 years.

Andy enjoyed working on cars, and racing cars in earlier years. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

He was a member of Masonic Perry Lodge No. 185 of Salem, a life-long member of the VFW in Washingtonville, a president of service managers club for 10 years, a past member of Greenford Ruritan Club, and he coached Little League baseball and basketball. He was instrumental in forming the Little League football, which he then coached.

Andy leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Myrna; his daughter, Tammie S. (Dan) Kandray of Gnadenhutten; his son, Randy J. (Priscilla) McLaughlin of Columbiana; five grandchildren, Dan Jr., Ian, Sydney, Candi, and Larry; his sisters, Evelyn Stockman of Chillicothe and Laverne Kellner of Leetonia; and his brother, Robert McLaughlin of Columbiana.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Anna Mae Adams, Dorothy Rapp, Marjorie Cole, and Mildred Tullis; and brother, Kenneth McLaughlin. He also was preceded in death by siblings, Richard Earl and Donna Jean, who died in infancy.

Memorial services will be held at Green Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m.

A military honors service will be held by the American Legion of Columbiana Post 290 and a Masonic Service will be conducted by the Masonic Perry Lodge No. 185 of Salem.

The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
