Obituary for Buddy S Strickland

BUDDY SQUIRE STRICKLAND AUSTINTOWN - Buddy Squire Strickland, 78, passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 19, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, following a lengthy illness. Buddy was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Falling Rock, W.Va., the son of the late Benjamin Squire and Laura Frances Tignor Strickland, and was a graduate of Clendenin High School in West Virginia. Mr. Strickland worked as a general supervisor at the General Motors Lordstown Plant, retiring in April of 1987 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Cornersburg Baptist Church, where he served on many church committees. Buddy will be remembered as a man who was hardworking, honest, and fair. He was always willing to help his family, friends and church with anything that was needed. A very strong, loving, caring, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Buddy loved and thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with his family. Buddy leaves his beloved wife of over 58 years, Emajene “Jean” Fields Strickland, whom he married Nov. 24, 1954; six children, Bonnie (Peter) Borovitcky, Buddy (Debra) Strickland, Sandra Strickland, Benjamin (Laurie) Strickland, Lisa Strickland, and Brian Strickland; grandchildren, Tricia (Ryan) McCabe, Peter Borovitcky II, Philip Borovitcky, Buddy Strickland II, Stori Strickland, Gina Strickland, Lauren Strickland, Benjamin Strickland Jr., Angela Strickland, Brandon Strickland, Justine Strickland, and Squire Strickland; six great-grandchildren, Abbey, Nolan, Preston, Brycen, Ashlyn, and Gianna; a sister, Hilda May (William) Westfall; and many nieces and nephews. Buddy will be greatly missed by his family, and by all who knew him. Siblings Uria Strickland and his wife, Ada, Pauline Light and her husband, Ernest, William Strickland and his wife Mae, Nancy Nellies and her husband David, and Eunice Strickland, all preceded Buddy in death. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow services at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
