Obituary for Robert Ensign

ROBERT A. ENSIGN AUSTINTOWN – Robert A. Ensign, 68, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 13, 2013, at his home following a long and difficult illness, surrounded by his wife and children. Robert was born in Youngstown on May 11, 1944, a son of the late Wilbur and Betty Ensign, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Ensign served in the U.S. Army in Germany, and was retired from Podojil Builders, where he was a commercial construction general supervisor. He was a member of Wickliffe Christian Church in Austintown, the Argus Masonic Lodge No. 545 in Canfield, and he was a member of the Aut Mori Grotto in Youngstown. Additionally, over a full and spirited lifetime, he was an officer with the North Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Dept., was a member of the Aut Mori Grotto Clown Unit, the Argus Lodge Fellowcraft Team, the Youngstown Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and he served on the vestry at the former St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Canfield. Robert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karin Barton Ensign; his children, Robert W. (Donna) Ensign, Michael A. Ensign, and Erika A. (Scott) Hinkle; two grandsons, Devin S. Hinkle and Robert J. Ensign; two brothers, Tim Ensign and David (Tanja) Ensign; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, William and Russell Ensign. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 15, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown. Funeral services with a Masonic service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home. Committal services with military honors will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Robert’s family thanks the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the kindness shown and care given to Mr. Ensign and his family during his illness.
