Obituary for Nicholas Vulcu

Nick Vulcu, age 93, husband of the late Mary Rotar Vulcu and resident of Derby, entered into eternal rest January 1, 2013 at Griffin Hospital. He was born February 11, 1919 in Derby, son the late Nicholas & Mary Dunka Vulcu. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the Philippines and worked as an auto mechanic for the former Stahl’s of Derby. Nicholas was a longtime member of The Immanuel St. James Episcopal Church in Derby. He was a Past Master & 50 year member of the former George Washington Masonic Lodge of Ansonia and was currently a member of The King Hiram Lodge #12 in Shelton. He was a past district deputy of the 3rd Masonic District, a member of the Baldwin Chapter #13 (R.A.M.) The Scottish Rite Valley of Bridgeport & The Pyramid Temple of Bridgeport. He was a member of John H. Collins American Legion Post # 24, of Derby, a member of The Morning Star Lodge in Seymour and the Police Square Club in Bethany. Survivors include his daughter Deborah Vulcu Scholl & her husband Jeff of Stratford and grandson Eric Scholl of Belmont, MA., as well as a nephew and a niece. He was predeceased by his sister Marie Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Monday Jan. 7th at 11:00 a.m. at The Immanuel St. James Episcopal Church, 123 Minerva Street Derby, CT 06418. Burial with military honors rendered will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia. Friends may call on Sunday, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia (www.jenkinskingfh.com) In lieu of flowers, donation in Nick’s memory may be made to his church.
