Obituary for June Stas

JUNE C. STAS AUSTINTOWN – Memorial services will be Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First Federated Church, 10786 Mahoning Ave. in North Jackson, for June C. Stas, 77, who passed away Thursday evening at Hospice House. June was born May 5, 1935, in Detroit, a daughter of the late Russell and Mary (Todor) Thomas. An elder of the First Federated Church of North Jackson, she worked as a secretary for the United Steel Workers of America from 1953 until her retirement in 1987. She served four years as Austintown Township Trustee from 1990 to 1994, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 301, serving as District 9 President in 1998, the Department of Ohio President in 2004, and the served as the Hospital Director from 2006 to 2011. June volunteered at the VA Clinic in Youngstown, belonged to the Austintown Eagles, the Austintown Democratic Ladies Club, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Bowling League, and the Wedgewood Lanes Try Hard League. Her husband, John Stas, whom she married Sept. 1, 1967, passed away Oct. 26, 1998. June will be sadly missed by her daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Mosier of Austintown; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Alexander. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, where an American Legion Auxiliary service will be at 7:30 p.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
