Obituary for Alberta M. Stevens

Alberta M. "Big Red" "Bobbie" (Shuter) Stevens (1936-2012) Services for Alberta M. "Big Red" "Bobbie" (Shuter) Stevens, 76, of Macedonia, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. Mrs. Stevens passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at Brentwood Healthcare Center in Sagamore Hills. Born Feb. 9, 1936, in Cleveland, she was a longtime Lake County resident and also had lived in Arizona and Florida. She was valedictorian of both her high school and her graduating class of Case Western Reserve University School of Nursing-Huron Road Hospital. Alberta was a lifetime student, always taking classes to broaden her horizons, and was active in the arts community. Alberta was a member of Lions International Auxiliary, Mensa Society, and served as a docent in the butterfly exhibit at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Rainforest. She was a world traveler, who loved adventures and won a contest to choose the naming rights for what is now Lake Farmpark in Kirtland. Mrs. Stevens was employed as a head nurse, working in post-anesthesia care unit at several area hospitals, including Lake West Hospital in Willoughby for many years and also at the former Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland. She also helped many people in her local community with health related issues. Survivors are her daughter, Christine (William) Bogus of Macedonia; son, Frank (Joanne) Stevens of Mentor; grandchildren, Victor Stevens and Rachael Stevens; sister, Barbara Mueller of Mentor; and brother, Doyle "Uncle Bull" (Renee) Shuter of Madison. Her parents, Doyle Shuter and Edna (Kollm) (Shuter) Pickard; and brother, Michael Shuter, are deceased. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at the funeral home. Final resting place will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Alzheimer's Association , P.O.
