HERBERT G. 'GERRY' BROOKS CANFIELD – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Christine Church for Herbert Brooks, 78, who passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Gerry, as he was known, was born July 11, 1933, in Niles, the son of Herbert and Esther (Casey) Brooks. He was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School. He was a member of St. Christine Church and was the past vice president of the Men’s Club at St. Joseph Church, where he also worked their bingo. He also worked with the American Heart Association as a volunteer, collecting funds for research. Gerry and his wife, Bonnie, spent winters in Ft. Myers, Fla., where they had a retirement home. He enjoyed golfing and camping, but most importantly Gerry loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Gerry leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Bonnie Amrich, whom he married May 28, 1956; their five children, Nancy (Michael) Suhar of Canfield, Diane Spotleson of Austintown, Kathy (Gary) Cook of Kinsman, Herb (Sherry) Brooks of Puyallup, Wash., and Robert (Cathy) Brooks of Austintown; as well as 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Gerry was preceded in death by one brother, William C. Brooks. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, where closing prayers will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the gymnasium fund at St. Christine School >>
