Obituary for ROBERT CHARLES CORNWELL

Robert C. Cornwell, 92, passed away Friday September 16, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Cremation will take place and no service is planned at this time. Robert was born January 21, 1919 in Saylorville Township, IA to Chester and Marie Cornwell. He grew up in the Des Moines area and served in the United States Army during WWII in New Guina. Robert was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Elaine, an outstanding father to his son Douglas, and a valued employee to Borden''s Dairy and Prairie Farms. He was a vital and energetic man with an unsurpassed passion for life and an uncompromising love for his family. His three grandchildren, Meredith, Lauren, and Will Cornwell of Ankeny, IA were a great source of pride for him, and he delighted in teaching them, learning from them, and watching them grow up. Robert also enjoyed spending time in his home in Juno Beach, FL boating and salt water fishing. Friends and family will always remember Bob for what he gave to them; complete honesty, resolute opinions, dedicated friendship, and steadfast love. He was unfailingly loyal and is remembered by others as being an honorable and admirable man. Here is to the "new man." Survivors include Elaine, his loving wife of 62 years, son Douglas, grandchildren Meredith, Lauren, and Will, brothers Ray Cornwell of Ankeny, IA, Bill Cornwell of Des Moines, IA, and sister-in-law Thelma Cornwell of Saylorville Township. Robert was preceded in death by his grandson Sam, his parents, his brothers Carl Cornwell. George Coy and his sisters Mryl Leggett, Helen Wood and Betty Jane Cornwell.
