Obituary for Clifford Virgil Colwell

Clifford V. Colwell AUSTINTOWN – Clifford V. Colwell, 92, passed away on April 28, 2010. He was born on June 14, 1917, in Conifer, Pa., the son of the late Grace P. (Brown) and Norman Lee Colwell. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a decorated World War II disabled veteran, having served from 1943 to 1945 as a light equipment engineer in the 489th Company. He was in five invasions and seven major battles, which included Africa, Italy, Normandy, Naples and Anzio and earned the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a medal for services in the English Navy. He retired from the Youngstown Sheet & Tube as a machine mechanic. Clifford enjoyed fishing, gardening and wood working along with other hobbies. He was always ready with a quick smile and helping hand. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Evangelical Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy, of 68 years; his brothers, Clair Norman Colwell and Russell Edward Colwell; and a sister, Zelda Mae (Colwell) Wilson. He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Marsha (Tim) Gibbons, Nancy (Michael) Emerick, both of Youngstown and Linda (Gary) Romano of Florida; a son, Cliff (Alice) Colwell of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren, all who loved him very much. Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown.
