Obituary for Nina J Houston

Nina J Houston BOARDMAN – Nina J. Houston passed away at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Hospice House in Poland. She was 80. Mrs. Houston was born on Sept. 23, 1929, in Gary, Ind., the daughter of the late Elzie and Edith (Melton) Yoho, and came to Ohio in 1935. A graduate of South High School, Mrs. Houston retired in 2000 from American Greetings, where she was a merchandiser for over 20 years. She was of the protestant faith and was an avid bowler and golfer. Mrs. Houston was a member of the Tuesday Morning Ladies League at Camelot Lanes and golfed with her sister, Betty. She enjoyed and had a passion for spending time in the kitchen and enjoyed the Friday excursions she spent with her sister, Betty, and her good friend, Betty Sefcik, and she also enjoyed playing games on her computer and traveling. Mrs. Houston was married on Jan. 27, 1950, in Youngstown to Alden E. Houston, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1994. She will be sadly missed by her son, James “Jim” S. (Diana L.) Houston of Beaver Township; a sister, Betty Girts of Poland; a brother, William “Bill” (Doris) Yoho of Columbiana; two grandchildren, Heather (Dave) Littler and Erik Houston; and two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Ava Littler. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ray, and a brother, Robert Yoho. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel, where a funeral service will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Nina’s name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
