Obituary for Walter Moore

WALTER R. MOORE MINERAL RIDGE – Walter R. Moore, 91, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, July 9, 2011, at his residence. He was born in Moatsville, W.Va., on Feb. 6, 1920, the son of James A. and Mary Elizabeth (Skiles) Moore and came to this area from Shinnston, W.Va. A graduate of Shinnston High School, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired in 1983, after working 20 years as a millwright at LTV Steel. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard, taking family photographs and carpentry work. As a father he taught his children well and loved his grandchildren and being a part of their activities. Walter is survived by his wife, Leona Jean (Garvin) Moore, whom he married on June 4, 1950; eight children, Terry Moore of Stonington, Conn., Duane (Judith) Moore of Canfield, Brenda Rodgers of Howland, James (Leslie) Moore of Canfield, Kenneth (Wendy) Moore of Henderson, Nev., Dennis (Marcee) Moore of Prattville, Ala., Eric (Deborah) Moore of Mineral Ridge and Robert Moore of Cornersburg; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Wheeler of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Rodgers; granddaughter, Melissa Sue Smith; three brothers, Earl Moore, Ralph Moore, Ronald Moore; and a sister, Nora Bonner. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles and Thursday, July 14, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Liberty Township. The funeral will be Thursday, July 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the church. Entombment will be at Greenhaven Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.
