Obituary for Lois J Mentges

LOIS J. MENTGES “Together Again” CANFIELD – Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christ Church Presbyterian USA for Lois J. Mentges, 87, who passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 23, 2011, surrounded by her family. Lois was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Youngstown, the daughter of Ray and Bertha (Whan) Farmer. She was a lifelong area resident, a graduate of South High School class of 1942, and was the owner/operator of her own curtain shop until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the church and the Riverside Garden Club, TOPS, the Canfield Dance Club, and the Steel Valley P.O.W. Organization. Lois was also active in several women’s organizations within the church. Her husband, Amil, whom she married Jan. 15, 1944, passed away Dec. 23, 2003. Lois leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Carol J. Mentges, with whom she made her home and Tom (Barb) Mentges of Poland; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Mentges of Newark; and three grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer Mentges of Poland and Eric Mentges of Newark. Besides her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by one son, David Mentges; and two sisters, Marjorie Galich and Peggyrae Dunlap. Friends may call from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Christ Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were handled by the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the church or to the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown in Lois’ name. The family would like to thank Vera Angles, Virginia Howley, and Barb Warner, Lois’ care givers, for all they did for her over the time she was ill.
