Veronica J. Smusz
MINERAL RIDGE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Mineral Ridge for Veronica J. Smusz, 87, who died Monday at her home.
Veronica was born April 5, 1923, in Girard, the daughter of the late Peter and Sophie (Floryan) Wolinski.
She had formerly worked in the cafeteria at U.S. Steel McDonald Works and retired from the Mineral Ridge School System, where she had worked in the cafeteria. Veronica was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and polka dancing.
Her husband, Stanley J. Smusz, whom she married May 1, 1943, died April 26, 1998.
She leaves three daughters, Carol (Robert) Zajack of McDonald, Veronica Smusz of Sanibel Island, Fla. and Barbara (Richard) Benkowski of East Palestine; five grandchildren, Robert (Diane) Zajack, Scott (Jodi) Zajack, Julie (Scott) Linebaugh, Krystin (Alan) Smaka and Mark Benkowski; and four great-grandchildren, Sierra and Caron Schrader and Megan and Drew Zajack.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine brothers and sisters, Peter Wolinski, Rose Wolinski, Anna Wahl, Mary Sternad, Josephine Scoville, Sophie Kisan, Joseph Wolinski, Catherine Wolinski and Victoria Bundy.
Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
