Obituary for John Keckes

John Keckes GIRARD – Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown for John Keckes, 94, who died Thursday afternoon at Briarfield Manor Nursing Center in Austintown. He was born Aug. 25, 1915 in Edinboro, Pa., a son of Daniel and Helen (Bartos) Keckes. He came to Youngstown in 1940 and resided in Girard since 1981. He worked for many years for The General Fireproofing Co. in Youngstown and Los Angeles. He was also a custodian for the Youngstown City School System for 20 years, before retiring in 1980. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Saxon Club ATS Branch 22 and the Saxon Retirees, and he was a former member of the New Wilmington, Pa. Senior Center and AARP group. He married the former Martha K. Zinz, on Aug. 20, 1940, and she preceded him in death Oct. 4, 2005. He is survived by two daughters, Karen (James) Mosier of Girard and Marcie (Richard) Leseganich of Canfield. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jim (Cheryl) Mosier of Austintown, John Mosier of Akron, Rev. Richard Leseganich of Cranberry, Pa. and Jill Stanley of Lexington, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth and Matthew Mosier; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Joseph Keckes; and five sisters, Mary Griglak, Marge James, Ann May, Pauline Lazor and Amelia Krlin. Friends may call one hour prior to services from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley in John’s memory. Arrangements are being handled by the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
