Obituary for HOWARD L SHELTON
Howard Lee Shelton, 73, of the 6800 block of Northwest 52nd Court, Johnston, died of a stroke Sunday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Mr. Shelton had lived in Des Moines all his life. He had worked for the Des Moines Public Schools as an educator and supervisor of social work services. He was a Marine Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of Conerstone Community Church, National Education Association, Drake Alumni Association, East High Alumni Association and Shen''s Church Fellowship. He was active in the Senior Olympics and had won many medals in tennis doubles. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He also had served as an umpire for IHRA and was involved in the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; three sons, Ted of Des Moines, Tim of Oceanside, Calif., and Tom of Phoenix, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at his church.
