Obituary for WILMA GERALDINE LEMONS

Wilma Lemons, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, October 8, 2009, at Sunnyview Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 at Altoona United Methodist Church with private burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Wilma was born March 30, 1921, in Marchwell, Saskatchewan, Canada. She grew up in Indianola, Iowa, graduating from Indianola High School as well as Simpson College and Drake University. Wilma retired as an Elementary School teacher for the Saydel School district in 1986 after 20 years of faithful service. Wilma was an active member of Altoona United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cheering on her Chicago Cubs, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Wilma is survived by her son, Jerry (Dolores) Lemons; daughter, Kyla (Doug) Burgett; grandchildren, Brenda, Bill, Lisa and Michael; great-grandchildren, Anna, Emily, Laura, Alex and John; sister, Irene Nix and a host of other family and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59½ years, Bill Lemons; her parents, William and Clara (Couke) Vickroy; two brothers, Fred and Joseph and sister, Margaret. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altoona United Methodist Church or Iowa Hospice in loving memory of Wilma.
