Obituary for GRACE ARNOLA GROENENDYK
Grace Arnola Groenendyk, 88, went to her heavenly home on November 27, 2010. She passed away at Mercy Medical Center and had been living at Senior Suites of Urbandale since May 2010.
She was born August 22, 1922 to Bertha and Arnold Beekhuizen in Tracy, IA. She and Eldert (Buck) were married April 7, 1942. Grace was a homemaker and later worked for Ruan Trucking for 20 years. In their 67 married years together they loved to travel and cruise. She was very active in her church and outreaches; including house parents, prison ministry, Hospice and Gideons. She was an avid bell collector and a great friend and "fill-in" Grandma to many.
She is survived by her husband Eldert (Buck), daughter Cindy Hill of Des Moines, grandchildren Todd (Susan) Hill of West Des Moines, Denyce Hill of Omaha, Mike (Kathy) Hardin, Steve (Katie) Hardin, Jeff (Carie) Hardin, son-in-law Tom (Gayle) Hardin all of Kansas City area, seven great-grandchildren; sister Marie (Harold) Van Maanen of Pella, sister-in-law Marie Beekhuizen of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Hardin, sisters Alice Beekhuizen, Jo (Bill) Kelderman, brothers Bert Beekhuizen and John (Leona) Beekhuizen.
In celebration of Grace''s life, a memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., December 4, 2010 at Meredith Drive Reformed Church (5128 Meredith Drive, Des Moines).
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hope Ministries of Des Moines, Gideons International or to the family.
