Obituary for CHARLES JOSEPH ABBOTT
Charles J. Abbott, 86, passed away May 29 at Mercy Hospice.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 2, at the Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road Des Moines, IA, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens with full military burial honors.
Charles was born November 29, 1923, to the late Orville and Mamie Abbott in Exline, IA. He graduated from Centerville High School. He entered the Navy and served on a mine sweeper in WWII for four years. He graduated from A.I.B. with an A.A. Degree. He worked for L. H. Kurtz Company as a salesman for 45 years. He married Betty Cruchelow July 15, 1953. Later he worked for Peerless Company before retiring in 1991. Charlie was an avid bowler and enjoyed boxing and golfing.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Virginia Summy; nephew, Bill Summy; niece, Diana Thomas; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Abbott.
