Obituary for DONALD JACK DEGROOTE Sr.
Donald J. DeGroote, 89, of the 900 block of 13th Street, West Des Moines, died of a heart ailment Friday at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial is pending.
Mr. DeGroote was born in Des Moines and had lived in the area most of his life. He was a retired self-employed sales and repair representative in the telecommunications field and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, fixing things, playing the piano, doing the jumbo puzzle in The Des Moines Register and reading it cover-to-cover. He was the captain of his church''s ushers.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; two sons, Timothy and Don Jr., and a daughter, Marilyn Elliott, all of Des Moines; a sister, Lucille Avery of Syracuse, NY; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brooks Funeral Care. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
