Obituary for SALLY L HONNOLD
Sally Honnold, 76, was called home to Jesus on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Hamilton''s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2900 49th St., Des Moines, with interment following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Sally was born February 24, 1930, in Des Moines, the eldest child of William and Anna Grinstead. She was a 1948 graduate of East High School, and married William Honnold in 1949. She worked for Northwestern Bell and Ernst & Young, retiring in 1992. In retirement, she enjoyed spending winters in Apache Junction, AZ and was a devoted and active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church.
Sally enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, needlepoint and quilting. She was an active volunteer for her church, and was treasurer and bookkeeper for Iowa Partners of the Americas, and she was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, East Gate Chapter.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Sandra Kay Honnold. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Honnold; daughter, Deborah (Stephen) Day of Urbandale; sons, Donavan (Lisa) Honnold of Ankeny and Gregory (Darlis) Honnold of Urbandale; seven grandchildren, Melissa Day, John Day, Rikki (Dan) Helvick, Ryan Honnold, Jade Honnold, Heather Honnold and Haley Honnold; two brothers, John (Norma) Grinstead of Runnells, James (Foy) Grinstead of Seminole, FL; two sisters, Jeanine (William) Harrington of Runnells and Jeanette (Larry) Ballard of Des Moines; twelve nieces and nephews; and a large extended family of friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
