Obituary for NADINE MARIE MCDOWELL
Nadine Marie "Deenie" McDowell, 71, of the 3400 block of East Jefferson Avenue died of a respiratory ailment Thursday at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Private graveside services will be held Saturday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Galilee Baptist Church, of which she was a member.
Mrs. McDowell was born in Easton, MN, and had lived in Des Moines most of her life. She had worked in the advertising department for Younkers and was a volunteer with Mercy Medical Center and a deaconess at her church. She enjoyed taking care of others.
She is survived by a husband, Gene; three sons, Jeff of Des Moines, Jim of Adel and Joel of Altoona; a daughter, Jenny Hammer of Wayne, NE; a brother, Don Barrer of Mitchellville; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Acres Adult Day Care Center or Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Fisher Funeral Home in Adel is handling arrangments.
