Obituary for Rev. Roland E Garvin

The Reverend Roland E. Garvin, age 93, of Dover Township, Dover, died November 12, 2023. He was the husband of the late Sue Ann (Thomas) Garvin, who died April 19, 2018, after 63 years of marriage.

Born July 1, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of the late Rev. Arthur W. Garvin and Mabel (Snyder) Garvin. He graduated from Taneytown High School, Taneytown, Maryland; Shenandoah College, Dayon, Virginia; Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pennsylvania, and United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio. Rev. Garvin was pastor of the Newburg Evangelical United Brethren Charge (Newberg, Hopewell, and Otterbein Churches); Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Manchester, Pennsylvania; and Yorkshire United Methodist Church, York, Pennsylvania. He also served as District Superintendent of the Williamsport District, Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church. After retirement in 1993, he served part-time as Assistant Pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, York, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed preaching, visiting, reading the Bible, mystery books and other novels. He always was appreciative of his family and friends.

He is survived by three sons, James E. Garvin, and his wife Trish, of Mount Wolf, Stephen T. Garvin, and his husband Rob, of LaPlata, Maryland, and Robert D. Garvin, and his wife Renee, of York; five grandchildren, Brittni, and her husband Michael Nelson, Kate, Jim and his wife Michelle, Curtis, and his wife Emily, and Clarie Garvin; five great grandsons, Asher, Daniel, Josiah and Luke Nelson, and Aiden Garvin; two sisters, Maxine Fritz, and Roberta Beerhorst; and a brother, Arthur Garvin, Jr.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday, November 20, 2023, at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 4360 Board Road, Manchester, with Pastors Rodger Mentzler, Robert Wallace, and Tanya Brubaker officiating. Viewings will be from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday and 9:00-10:00 AM Monday at the Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. William E. Little Funeral Home, Inc., 60 South Main Street, Manchester, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
