Obituary for William D. Vickerman

William Dennis Vickerman, known affectionately by his family and friends as Bill, passed away on November 10, 2023, in Bryn Mawr Hospital, after a 2-month long illness. Born on May 15, 1945, in Philadelphia, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cousin whose humor, wisdom, and handyman skills touched the lives of many. Bill was a proud graduate of Marple Newtown Senior High School, class of 1963. Bill worked as a postal clerk at the Wayne Post Office. Later, he also worked as a cashier at Gallen's Texaco, where his commitment to service and his infectious humor brightened the days of many customers.

Bill was a man of many interests, which included being an amateur trap shooter. He was also a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, with a particular fondness for the Philadelphia Flyers. His love for his team was infectious, and he was known to passionately yell "score" during every game. However, his greatest joy was undoubtedly his family. Known as "Pop Pop" to his seven grandchildren - Jayme, Mia, Olivia, Christian, Jenna, Michael, and William, Bill cherished his role as a grandfather and took great pride in their achievements.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia E., his daughter Leigh Ann and her husband John, and his son William. Bill's legacy lives on in his family, who remember him as a wise, funny, and handy man. His guidance, laughter, and love will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved.

Bill's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and hard work. His unwavering dedication to his family and his beloved Philadelphia Flyers will be remembered by all who knew him. His humorous anecdotes, wise insights, and unique ability to fix anything that was broken will be missed, but never forgotten. In his 78 years, Bill Vickerman lived a rich, full life. His memory will continue to inspire and guide his family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
