Obituary for Mr. Richard W. Engles Jr.

Richard W. “Rick” Engles, Jr., affectionately known as “Wes” by his family, age 72, of York, PA, died at York Hospital, with his family by his side, on November 3, 2023. He was the husband of Melissa (Gregory) Engles with whom he observed their 50th wedding anniversary on June 16, 2023.

Born March 9, 1951 in York, PA, he was the son of the late Mildred Ream Husson and Richard W. Engles, Sr.

Rick was a 1969 graduate of Dallastown High School and completed a four-year PA certified electrical apprenticeship through A.B.C. He served his apprenticeship at Miller Electric. Following his apprenticeship, he was employed at Bartco Electric for twelve years, before owning and operating Engles and Fahs Electrical Contractors for twenty-six years. Rick was also a former evening instructor for York Tech, teaching electrical education to adults for ten years.

He was a member of Starview United Church of Christ, Zeredatha Lodge # 451 F. & A.M., York Forest # 30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Victory A.A., the Viking A.A. and Hawk Gunning Club.

In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by two sons, Richard W. “Wally” Engles, III and his wife Amy J. Engles of York, PA and Douglas G. Engles and his wife Shannon M. Engles of York, PA; four grandchildren, Tessa, Emma, Cody and Colin and a sister, Bonnie Garrity of Millsboro, DE.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Starview United Church of Christ, 4832 N. Sherman Street Extd., Mount Wolf, PA 17347 with his pastor, the Rev. Laura Baker, officiating. The family will receive friends and guests at the church on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday November 14, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Cancer Patient Help Fund”, c/o Wellspan York Health Foundation, 2500 S. George Street, York, PA 17403.
