Obituary for Dr. George Arthur Williams Rev.

Retired Minister and professor of philosophy, George A. Williams, 88, formerly of York, P.A. died on April 25, 2023.

Born April 21, 1935, he was the son of the late George H. Williams and Ruth A. Wilhelm Williams.

George graduated from Gettysburg College in 1957, earned his Bachelor of Divinity from The Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1960, and went on to receive his doctorate of Philosophy from the University Of Edinburgh Scotland. George taught Philosophy, Ethics, and Theology. He was a member of the clergy, a professor at Carthage College, and he served as a trauma chaplain for Lehigh Valley Hospital and Manor Care Nursing Home.

George's talents and accomplishments were many. He was a trained singer, performed in local theaters, taught college, ministered, played piano, was fluent in German and Latin, and learned to man a sailboat and fly a light aircraft airplane. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, hiking, photography, growing orchids, baking, and traveling within the U.S. and abroad. He was an avid reader with a small, but extensive library. He had a special place in his heart for his four-legged friends, his animals, and especially his dogs. George's kind nature and gentle soul captivated those around him almost as much as his larger-than-life beautiful voice. His love of laughter and music did not end with his death, but lives on in our hearts and our memories.

George is survived by his four daughters, Megan, Gabby, Lisette, and Celena and his five grandchildren. He left this life surrounded by love and care. The love of his life and soulmate, said, If she could have anyone in the world, it would still be him. George will be remembered for his beautiful singing voice, love for life, his sense of humor, and sweet, kind demeanor. His spirit is a light that will be everlasting and serves to provide kindness and strength to everyone who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Finegan Funeral Home at 4080 William Penn Highway in Palmer Township, PA, with a funeral service beginning at 1:00pm at the funeral home. The interment will be private.
