Obituary for Ms. Roxie M.J. Kern

Roxie Marian June (Keiser) Kern, 92, of Topton, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023 in her residence. Born in Longswamp Township, Roxie was a daughter of the late Howard T. Keiser, Sr., and Essie M. (Gambler) Keiser. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Longswamp Township, and later graduated from Kutztown Area High School in 1949.

 

Roxie worked as a waitress and server at various local eating establishments throughout her career. In the 1960's, she worked at the Topton American Legion, Herman's Drive-In, Sheila's Pub and Kemp's Hotel. In the 1970's, Roxie worked at The Red Velvet, Kutztown Fire Company and Whispering Springs. Most recently, Roxie was employed by The Airport Diner in Kutztown. She also worked briefly as a Realtor for Mary Ann Realty.

 

Roxie was a member of the former Kutztown Lioness Club, Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, and Kutztown Fraternal Order of Eagles. Roxie was always ready to go on an adventure. She loved going to casinos, Las Vegas, and cruising with her daughters and going on family trips to Ocean City Maryland.

 

The family would like to extend a sincere "Thank You" to Lehigh Valley Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care shown towards Roxie during her illness.

 

Roxie is survived by her five loving children, Barry C., husband of Marguerite (Haurus) Kern, Blandon, Debra R. (Kern), wife of Richard W. Jarret, Mertztown, Roxann M. (Kern), wife of Richard L. Jarrett, Mertztown, Kim R. (Kern), wife of Craig Borrell, Topton, and Tracey L. Kern, wife of Francisco Garcia, of Topton; six grandchildren, Linsey Fenstermacher, Austin Borrell, Marybeth Kern, Alaina Jarrett, Erin Nomland and Brielle Garcia; five great-grandchildren, Peyton Schlegel, Olivia Nomland, Madison Nomland, Patrick Jarrett and Holden Borrell; and brother, Donald, husband of Beatrice Keiser of South Carolina.

 

Along with her parents, Roxie was predeceased by her former husband, Clayton E. Kern; and siblings, Catherine Milisets, Miriam Trexler, Hope Lesher, Fern Kratcha, Douglas Keiser, Howard Keiser, Jr., and John Keiser.

 

A graveside funeral service to celebrate and honor Roxie's life and burial will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. in Union Cemetery of Bowers, 63 Old Bowers Road, Bowers, PA, with The Reverend Arthur L. Hahn officiating.
