Obituary for Mrs. Corrine E. Smith

Corrine E. (Hilbert) Smith, 96, of Mertztown, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident for two weeks. She was the widow of Claude I. Smith, who died on May 4, 1996.

 

Born in Longswamp Township, Corrine was a daughter of the late George M. and Cora E. (Kauffman) Hilbert, and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Topton. Corrine worked at the former Leininger's Knitting Mill, Lyons, for six years in the 1940's. Since then, she was a homemaker who took great pride in raising her family and taking care of her home.

 

Corrine is survived by her children, June F. (Smith), widow of Ronald L. Schittler, Topton, Carolann K. (Smith), widow of Gideon Waterman, St. Augustine, FL, Claude I. Smith, Lenhartsville, and George J., husband of Linda (Melchor) Smith, Kutztown; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

 

Along with her husband Claude and parents, Corrine was predeceased by two brothers, Earl F. Hilbert and Glenroy Hilbert.

 

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Corrine's life will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Scott W. Lingenfelter officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
