Obituary for Kathleen L. Lodwick

Dr. Kathleen L. Lodwick, 78, a resident of Berks County, PA, died Wednesday, July 7, 2022.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Kathryn E. (Worthington) Lodwick and Algha C. Lodwick. Dr. Lodwick worked as Chinese History Professor at the Pennsylvania State University, for over 25 years. Then, retired in 2012 with hopes to continue her love of sewing, traveling, and volunteering for organizations she felt most passionate.

She was a graduate of Ohio University, receiving a BA in Journalism, then later received her Ph.D. in Chinese History from the University of Arizona. Her research specializations and subsequent writings and biographies focused on Christian Missionaries and Women's Education in Southern China and Mongolia, during the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries.

In her free time, she loved to use her embroidery machine, watch BBC mysteries, travel with her daughter, and tell humorous stories to any listening ear. She was an avid reader, incredible cook and baker, and loved nature and all animals. One of her passions, a family-held tradition, was birdwatching, in addition to caring for her beloved dogs. Dr. Lodwick was also a passionate about social justice, women's rights, and civic duty.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn E. Lodwick, Ardmore, PA, and her younger brother, Laurence N. Lodwick, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Private services will be held locally for Dr. Lodwick, she will be laid to rest with her parents at St. Paul's Churchyard Cemetery, Affton, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to The Innocence Project. Dr. Lodwick intended to devote much of her time to this organization, something she believed was important and a representation of her love of social justice.
