Obituary for Jon Francis Quinlisk

Jon Francis Quinlisk, 82, of Wheeling, WV, died peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Jon was born February 26, 1939, the only child of the late Francis and Genevieve (Quinn) Quinlisk of Forest Hills, PA. He was a graduate of Slippery Rock University, University of Maryland, and West Virginia University. He taught at Wheeling Jesuit College and Shadyside High School. He enjoyed a long second career as a drug and alcohol counselor. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines and Jamaica.
Jon was an ardent Pittsburgh Pirates fan and held season tickets in hopes of seeing them in just one more World Series. He loved reading and sitting on his front stoop with a book and a cup of coffee. He enjoyed participating in charity fun runs and kickball games, and had an especially fine collection of free t-shirts from these events. He traveled far and wide to see the Grateful Dead in concert and for extended visits to friends and family in Boulder, CO and Sydney, Australia. Jon was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1986, 35 years. A Catholic by faith, he was deeply committed to living a life in service to others.
Jon is survived by his daughter Margaret (Meg) Quinlisk, son-in-law Sean Price, and grandchild Hugh Price of Sydney, Australia. A private burial will take place at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Cathedral, 1300 Eoff Street, Wheeling WV 26003, on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 10:00am.
