Obituary for Thomas V. "Slim" Boyd

Thomas Boyd, also known as Slim Jim, Slim and Mr. Slim was an outgoing man who liked to make people feel good through music. He started performing in 2nd grade, singing for the nuns at the Holy Child School and continued to entertain people throughout his life.

Tom sang and played guitar in many local bands and could perform all styles of music but preferred rock and roll and was ultimately a super fan of Elvis Presley. Early in his career, he traveled the Northeast teaching kids a history of rock and roll while sharing his love of music. In 2008 he took 1st place in the Delco Senior Idol competition and for the past several years he performed for community groups, senior centers and especially enjoyed entertaining crowds at the Lansdowne Farmer’s Market.

Tom worked as a talented house painter and handyman and customers often became friends because of his engaging personality. Singing was happily considered part of the job. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes to make people laugh. A great cook, he loved sharing recipes and talking about food.

Tom was a kind and dedicated father who raised 4 children and was happy to be PopPop to Sylvia and Keyra. He was enthusiastically awaiting the birth of his grandson this year. He was an adoring and devoted husband to Liz (Rieder) and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was brother of the late Robert, Michael and James Boyd

Survivors include his wife Liz Rieder, daughter, Alisa Christian (Chris); sons, Thomas J. Boyd (Tiffany Galindo), Patrick Boyd (Julie Rush) and Joshua Chapter, his brother Frank Boyd (Betsy) , 2 granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
