Obituary for John Carroll Sweet

John C. Sweet, age 68, husband of Judith S. Sim Sweet of 654 West Country Estate Ave., Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of 6 Cherry St., Ansonia, died, Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at the Chandler Regionals Hospital in Arizona, unexpectedly.  Mr. Sweet was born on July 29, 1931 in Derby, son of the late C. Denton and Emma Hobson Sweet.  A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he moved to Arizona four years ago.  He was a retired detective for the Ansonia Police Department for more than 30 years, until his retirement in 1995.  He was also a life member and past captain of the Eagle Hose Company #6 in Ansonia and a member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge in Ansonia.  His survivors, besides his wife, include three sons, Jonathan Sweet of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jeremy Sweet of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jay Sweet and his wife, Rebecca, of Boca Raton, Fla; two brothers, Charles Sweet and his wife, Joan, and Robert Sweet and his wife, Barbara, both of Ansonia, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Doris L. Crowley, and a brother, William A. Sweet.  Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 4, 1999 at 10 a.m. from the Church of the Assumption, Ansonia.  Burial with full military accord will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  There will be no calling hours.  Contributions can be made to the Ansonia Police Benefit Association, Eagle Hose Company or the Assumption Church Organ Fund through the Spinelli-Malerba Funeral Home, 62 Beaver St. Ansonia, which is entrusted with the arrangements.
