Obituary for Emil Herbert Johnson

E. Herbert Johnson, 97; longtime engineer at Farrel

SOUTHBURY - A service will be held Tuesday for E. Herbert Johnson, 97, of 217 Pomperaug Woods, formerly of Ansonia, who died Friday, March 24, 1995, at home after a long illness. He was the widower of E. Pearl Seccombe Johnson.

His funeral will take place in the Jenkins-King Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Mr. Johnson was born on March 1, 1898, in the Union City section of Naugatuck, a son of the late Charles and Sophia Johanson Johnson.

Before his retirement in 1963, he was an executive engineer for the Farrel Co. in Ansonia, where he worked for 48 years.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Congregational Church.

He was a member of the Farrel Old Timer's Club, the Association of Professional Engineers of Connecticut, a 75-year member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge and a member of the board of directors of the Pine Grove Cemetery. In addition, he was a member of the New York Rubber Group, the Society of Plastics Industry, the Society of Plastics Engineers, a social member of the Eagle Hose Fire Department and the Orange Fire Department, a former member of the Race Brook Country Club, a member of the Wadi Shrine Club of Ansonia and a member of the New Haven Commandery No. 2 Knights Templar.

Mr. Johnson was a "Dollar a Year Man" of the rubber division of the War Production Board in Washington, D.C., during World War II. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Chapter Union Council, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of New Haven, the Lafayette Cosnistory 32nd Degree of Bridgeport and Pyramid Shrine Temple of Milford.

He is survived by a sister, Alice Swan of Ansonia.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by three brothers, Harry, William and Oscar Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Ansonia; or the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital through the funeral director.
