Obituary for Roberto U. Tiña

Roberto Ubaldo Tiña, age 85, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019, at San Francisco General Hospital.

Roberto was born on January 21, 1934 in Manila, Philippines to Paulino and Antonia Tiña. He is the youngest of 9 siblings (Jose, Carmen, Ernesto, Francisco, Alice, Felicisimo, Leticia, Milagros). He graduated from University of Santo Tomas with a B.S. in Architecture and later obtained his Architectural license. He married Carmelita Arias on November 3, 1957 in Malate Church, Manila, Philippines. Together, they had two sons and one daughter.  Roberto worked for several companies in Manila before starting his own business, A&E Steel Structures. In 1978, wanting a brighter future and more opportunities for his children, he migrated with his family to San Francisco, California. He worked for various architectural firms, the last being at Bechtel Corporation as an Architect/Supervisor until he retired. He enjoyed his daily walks, daily visits to the church, and working around the house. Roberto had a strong catholic faith. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of a good education, as well as perseverance through trial and error whether mental or physical. He was always helping people who are in need in whatever way he can. He enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and was a player through high school and college. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and believed strongly in balance between fitness of the mind and of the body.

Roberto is survived by his beloved wife Carmelita of 62 years; sons Albert (spouse Teresita) and Paul (spouse Louise); daughter Marissa; six grandchildren Andrew, Allan, Thomas (spouse Franzene), Adrienne, Annika, and Gerard; great grandson Tristan; sister Milagros, and many nieces and nephews.

We miss you very much Papa/Tata, but we know you’re in a much better place and that you are always looking over us.
