Obituary for Maxine Luck

Maxine S. Luck, 72, passed away on March 23, 2018 at Akron General Medical Center. She was born in Evergreen, Alabama the third of 14 children. She moved to Akron, Ohio from Tacoma, Wash., in 1976, where she began working at St. Thomas Hospital, retiring in 2010. She was a long standing member of United Baptist Church, where she wore her signature hats and gloves each Sunday. Maxine was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Stephens Jr.; mother, Clara E. Stephens; and sister-in-law, Helen Stephens. Maxine is survived by one son, Michael S. Luck of Tacoma, Wash.; six sisters, Annie M, Rev. Georgia Stephens of Akron, Ohio, Willie M, Dorothy (Roosevelt) Scott, Linda J. Sparks of Omaha, Neb., Geraldine Tait of Evergreen, Ala.; seven brothers, Charles, MacArthur, Kenneth, Robert, James (June) Stephens of Akron, Ohio, Leon Stephens of Omaha, Neb. and Sherwood Stephens of Evergreen, Ala.; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. Home going celebration will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 12 p.m. at United Baptist Church 1007 S. Hawkins Ave., Akron, Ohio 44320. Family will receive friends and family from 11 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Kevin G. Rushing, eulogist and Rev. Ernest Stallworth, officiant. Interment at Mt. Peace cemetery.
