Obituary for Phillip A. Pillar

Pillar, Phillip Anthony, 58, of Wynnewood, PA, died August 23, 2017. A tax attorney for many years, Phil worked at Grant Thornton, Greenberg Traurig and Ernst & Young, as well as for the Internal Revenue Service. He also served as an adjunct professor in the graduate tax program at Villanova University. A Texas native, Phil attended Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law. He earned an advanced degree from the Washington University in St. Louis. Phil was a sports enthusiast who closely followed the Dallas Cowboys as well as the Philadelphia Union and the USGA; he was also an avid fan of live and recorded music, and a longtime booster of public radio. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Garber, his children, Peter, Claire, and Ian, his mother Edie Pillar of Bend, Oregon, and his brother William Pillar of Spokane, Washington. Memorial service at 2PM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at West Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Phil's honor may be sent to the Houston Food Bank, www.houstonfoodbank.org.
