Growing up as a young man he joined the Bermuda Police Force, and then later
relocated to the United States with his new wife. Once there he held down work with, laundry
service, barber school, and chef work, until he positioned himself at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, and
was promoted to the position of Supervisor.
Our parents raised us in Brooklyn, NY until 1974, and within that same year they
purchased a home In Philadelphia, PA on Green Street. S.T. retired from Pfizer in 1990. S.T.
traveled between Bermuda and the U.S., he looked forward to spending time with his sisters
and brothers in Bermuda. He was a dedicated father and husband to our family. S.T. was a
fighter, his health was failing, and at the end he did things his own way. S.T. departed this life on
Tuesday August 22, 2017.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his three sons Greg (Michelle),
Donald (Tonya), and Gavin (Yvette), 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of
nephews, nieces, cousins, and many family and friends.
Shirley Thomas Furbert was fair, but firm and loved by all – he was a gentle giant that
would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was a mentor and survivor, he will be
missed dearly. God finally called him home to reunite with Candace – so now they'll be together
forever in heaven.
