Obituary for Paul Salata

PAUL G. SALATA YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows St. Matthias Church for Paul G. Salata, 91, who died early Friday morning at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home. Paul was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of Michael and Mary (Palatas) Salata. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II on USS Ommaney Bay. After returning from war, Paul lived in LaMesa, Calif., and worked at V.R. Dennis Construction Co. as a truck driver.

After retirement in 1984, he returned back home to the Youngstown area. Paul’s wife, the former Freda Dempsey, whom he married in 1948, died in 1999. He is survived by his son, Robert J. Salata of Youngstown; granddaughter Amelia Salata of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, who will miss Paul dearly. Paul was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers Michael, John, Joseph, and Edward Salata; and sisters Margaret Vitko, Ann Vranches, Mary Scheetz, and Helen Greer.
Friends and family may call Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Monday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church.
