Willie "Willa" Mae Hooks Willie Mae Hooks was born January 13, 1951, in Akron, Ohio to the union of the late Willie and Lunnie Carroll. She transitioned from this earth on February 8, 2017, in Fort Wayne, Indiana after a short illness. Willa was educated within the Akron Public School system and graduated from Central High School in 1970. Her work experience included MediCenter in Akron and the US Post Office. She was a devoted homemaker who took pride in caring for her family. Willa was a quiet, kindhearted person that showed respect and love to everyone she met. She could be counted on to provide sound support and candid advice to her husband, children, family members, and friends. Her hobbies included bowling, bingo, and fishing with her husband.Willa was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Dorothy Carroll; sister, Doris Carroll-Rodgers; mother and father in-law, Catherine and Hosea Hooks Sr.; and brother-in-laws, Arthur Snowden, Major Green and Hosea To cherish her memory is Richard Hooks, loving husband of 36 years; daughter, Shannon Hooks; grandchildren; Jayla Church and Amarie Avery, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sisters, Lucille Burney, Christine (Leon) Simon, and Bernice (Charlie) Mitchell, all of Akron and Jeanette Conley, of Beloit, Wisconsin; brother, Fred Carroll of Akron; brother-in-law, Edward T. Hooks (Deloris) of Battlecreek, Mich.; sister-in-laws, Inez Watson of Cleveland, Ohio, Dorothy Green of Warrensville Heights, Ohio and Brenda (Willie) Benson of Akron; step-daughters, Kimberly Hamilton, Sonja (Nathaniel) Smith and Nikki Johnson, all of Atlanta, Georgia and Lynn (Jerry) Puryear of Akron; special friend, Julius Kennedy Sr.; godchildren, Julius Kennedy Jr. and Keisha Kennedy; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.Service will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 940 McKinley Ave., Akron, OH 44306, Pastor Lorenzo Glenn eulogizing. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 12 p.m. until time of service.
