Obituary for Robert L. Garrison

Robert L. Garrison TOGETHER FOREVER KENT -- Robert Lynn Garrison died February 3, 2017. He was born August 5, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to Grady and Emma Florence Garrison. Bob graduated from Springfield High School; in 1948 and from Kent State University in 1953 where he was a charter member of Alpha Tau Omega. Bob served at Naval Air Station, Akron Ohio, from 1948 to 1956. Bob met his wife, Betty Jane Cross at Kent State and they married in 1955. She was the love of his life for the next 55 years. Bob worked as a claim representative for Ohio Casualty Insurance Co. for 34 years. Bob was elected a Franklin Township trustee and served as trustee for more than 31 years. In 2004 the pavilion at the Franklin Township Park (Phillips Park) was dedicated the Garrison Pavilion recognizing Bob''s long term chairmanship and his leadership and vision for the Township which resulted in comprehensive land use planning being instituted for the township in concert with the City of Kent and Portage, Stark and Summit Counties. Bob is survived by his children, Jonathan Garrison of Cincinnati; Beth Dreitler (Joseph) of Columbus; Daniel Garrison of Grand Junction, Colo.; and Mark Garrison (Sabrina) of Gig Harbor, Wash.; his grandchildren, Robert Cross (Bobby) Garrison (Lauren) and Jonathan Mark Garrison of Reno, Nev.; nieces, Jane Kenyon (Steve) of Hudson and Sara Frederick of Akron. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane; brother, Guy Garrison; sister, Betty Frederick; niece, Anne Garrison and daughter-in law, Andrea Garrison. Bob was active in his golf league at Mayfair Country Club, was a regular at the FitWorks Fitness Center in Stow, Ohio and a member of the Kent United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for and to thank the best neighbors, ever, Mary Lou Holly, Michael Lee and Bob Hansford for all of their love and kindness to Bob. The family will receive friends at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017.
