Obituary for Mary Ellen Shiller

MARY ELLEN SHILLER AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, with a prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home in Youngstown and the funeral Mass beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Church in Youngstown for Mary Ellen Shiller, 63, who passed away on Monday. She was born Jan. 10, 1954, in Grove City, Pa., daughter of Paul Kirila and Elizabeth (Metz) Kirila. She moved to the Youngstown area to work as a LPN for Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital. Before moving out of Pennsylvania, she worked for the Metz Family Bakery. She was a member of St. Columba Church. She was actively involved in her children’s lives and while they were at St. Joseph School in Austintown, she ran the 250 Club fund raiser, started the annual Trash and Treasure sale and was president of the Home and School Association.

When her children started at Ursuline High School, she worked in the Irish Cottage and was an active volunteer helping with marching band and theater. Surviving are her husband, Dr. Paul Shiller, whom she married June 3, 1989; a daughter, Elizabeth Shiller; a son, Daniel Shiller; and one brother, Paul Kirila and his wife, Joanne. She is also survived by a niece and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt, Helen, who raised her after the death of her mother.
