Obituary for Charles L. Vaughn

Charles Lindsey Vaughn departed his temporary home suddenly Tuesday, November 8, 2016. He was born on March 28, 1954 in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Charles W. and Dorothy Vaughn. Charles attended Margaret Park Elementary School and graduated from South High School. He participated in football and worked as a meat cutter through high school. Charles completed the Local 219 Plumbers’ and Pipefitters’ Apprenticeship Program and worked his trade for 38 years. He also attended Los Angeles Trade and Technical School in 1984. He was a handyman who always helped out his family and friends with everything from small household jobs to major remodeling projects. He had great compassion for the elderly and committed himself to looking after his senior family members and friends and ensuring that their needs were taken care of in their later years. He could always be counted on to transport them to church, medical appointments, and any other social events their hearts desired. He returned to San Diego, California to care for his ex-wife’s mother for 2 years, monitoring her diabetes, cooking for her, and attending to her health care needs. Charles was preceded in death by his parents – Charles Sr. and Dorothy Vaughn, and his dear brother-in law – Larry Johnson. Charles will be missed by his five children – Shawn (Dorinda) Davidson, of Medina, OH; Matthew (Tara) Vaughn, of Sunnyvale, CA; Kylee Vaughn, of San Diego, CA; Kindsey Vaughn, of Sunnyvale, CA and, Kelsy Vaughn, currently serving in the U.S. Navy overseas; four grandchildren- Terrell and Dorrell, Deseree, Dashawn and two great-grandchildren – Jayden, and Amia. Charles also leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving sisters: Deborah (Gypsy) Miller of Tarzana, CA; Vanessa Johnson of Akron, OH and, Denise (Eric) Byrd of Akron, OH; and his ex-wife and eternal friend, Patricia Vaughn. Charles will also be missed by: his uncle, Leslie Vaughn; his aunt, Ivaleen Forney; a very special friend, Darnella McNeil; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and, a host of other family and friends who love him dearly.
